A PIT BULL'S UP AND DOWN

Very early on March 1, 2015, the incorrigible pair had to have "Pirate Time".  We had had 5 inches of snow during the night.  Needless to say they were very interested in the feel of the new snow and the smells of everything.

"Pirate Time" is where they have a wrestle/growling playtime.  It is very rough and they sound like pirates on the prowl, Argggh.  When they start it inside they are relegated to the outside deck till they are wrestled out.

They noticed something in the treetops.  I have no idea what.  It could have been a bird or a squirrel or with them it could have been a leaf hanging on a branch which attracted their attention.  They are very curious dogs.

Seconds later they heard the basement door open and shut.  Daddy was headed out to sweep the snow off the cars.  Our drive is so steep we have to park down the drive when the weather is bad. (See the Electric pole on the left corner of the picture, it's base is located on the lower level.)
This had their rapt attention for the next 5 minutes and then it was pirate time again.
The play looks like it is rough but you could put your hand in their mouths at anytime and not be hurt.  I wouldn't want to be next to them while they were doing their thing.  Their weight hitting against you would bowl you over!  They love the snow play, afterwards they crash for "Quiet Time".  That's the best time...lol

BEST FRIENDS

Best friends come in all kinds of packages. But the best package is a cuddle package.

They are on a love-seat in the den.  It seems an appropriate place for them to crash.

Five minutes before both of their heads were on Hunny's lap.  He slid out from under them and they never even budged.

Are you wondering why there are so many sleeping photos of them.  It seems sleeping is one of a pit bull's favorite things to do.

Their play is so rambunctious we call it "Pirate time".  When I holler "Pirate Time" they know to head to the deck door and they take their rough housing outside. They make argghh sounds while they are wrestling violently.  You do not want to be in the path of the two. Their weight and their PSI will over-end you.  The minute they come in they head to the water and then to the couch, where it is "Quiet Time".

A PITBULL PUPPY'S PORTRAIT

If you haven't read about me before, I am Meydel.  That's yiddush for little girl.  I'm Boychik's baby sister.  Boychik is yiddish for little boy.  He's not so little though.  He weighs about 90 pounds.   He's been around for almost a  year.  You can read about some of his exploits in the other blogs.

This week I have been in my forever home for three months.  We are still going through lots of "Situations".

The biggest one, I seem to have come to my new home with separation anxiety.  If they walk out of the room and come back in I have to greet them as if they have been gone for days.  I jump on them and snibble on them.  I don't have a soft mouth so the snibbling hurts sometimes.

They have to hold my collar and distract me to get me to calm down.  Then I let them pet me and love me.  They say to each other, "When we google, how to break this habit, there has been no answer for us."

I have learned how to tell Mommy I have to go, but I don't tell her till after I have gone.  I run up to her and bark, she looks at me and says, "Oh no, again.  You were just out 10 minutes ago."  Then we clean up the mess.  I am good about going when she lets me out, but I leave it up to her to decide it is time to go.  When they let me out I go potty when they ask me to, even if I have just gone .  I know what to do and when to do it but when I am playing I just go where I am at.

I can hold it through the night, so that is not my problem.  Mommy has a secret.  She picks up the water bowl at 9:00 PM and doesn't put it down till I've been potty the next morning.
I do have a couple of pluses.  I am a superb watch dog.   I sound the alarm even when it's a B & E on a television program.  When I watch TV,  I think it is something happening in another room.

Today when Dad was viewing the pictures he took of me on his 32" X 18" monitor I looked up, saw myself, and started barking at the Doggy in the window.

Another plus I have, is I am a tattle-tale.  When Boychik is doing something he shouldn't I have a shrill bark that brings Mommy running.  I use that same bark to tell her when he takes my toys and won't let me play with them.

I love to cuddle and they love to cuddle me.  It's when I get rambunctious they get perturbed.  I can't just sit on the couch and be petted.  I want to rough-house.  I want them to let me bite them like I do Boych.  Boych lets me pull him by his jowls and never complains.

They were spoiled by Boych.  When he relaxes he crashes.  He's out like a light in seconds.  We've seen him fall asleep with his head up and it drops like a boulder to the floor with a loud heavy thunk.

I'm through the teething stage (I think).  They didn't appreciate when I showed them I liked to chew.  I tried the corners of the coffee table when they weren't around.  They were good but not as good as the newel on the arm of the sofa.  After I got reprimanded for those things and decided I better stick to the logs they give me.  I've only chewed one tennis shoe, one slipper, one dress shoe, and one everyday shoe.  All but one were put up where I supposedly couldn't get them.   I decided it wasn't worth getting in trouble for, so I have stopped doing it.  They still don't trust me with the shoes.

One of my favorite things they give me to chew is a black walnut.  I don't have it long though.  Boych chews his up lickity split and then comes to steal mine.  I yell for Mommy and she retrieves it and the minute she turns her back he takes it again.

Today it snowed.  There is enough snow I can play snow plow with my nose.  I really have fun biting at the chunks of snow which pop up. I am really a tomboy at heart.  I'll be a little lady soon enough.

PIT BULL VS GREAT PYRANEES

This blog will be a long one.....Just as our week with the two new "friends" seemed like it was a month not a week.  It was a week of, who's to be the contender to the throne.  From Sunday, August 3, till Sunday August 10, we were inundated with every spectrum of what a dog should not do in your home.

It was evident Shayna had never been in a house or never been on a lead.  I'm trying to remember back to the 3rd.  I wish I had had time to make notes when things happened.  It was a whirl wind week of getting to know you.  From the moment we woke till when we went to bed, it was watch and don't leave anything unattended.  To her everything was hers.

The first thing we noticed she had this self-preservation idea to the max.  We were told she was shy,  this wasn't the case.  She's extremely territorial.  She will fight for what she thinks is hers.

Example:  The third day she was here we got the "cage" out of the barn and put it up in the living room.  There were a couple of things we needed to address;  potty training and aggression.  We tried to get her into the cage.  It was shove her in and shut the door.  Then we gave her a treat and told her she was a good girl. (This is how we did it with boychik, with in 10 minutes he went in an out of the cage thinking treats were there.)  Shayna went bonkers.  She wanted nothing to do with treats.  She tore at the walls and wouldn't calm down.  We let her out.

Remember this was Boychik's cage first, till he didn't use it any more, and didn't need it for training, so it was put away.  Boychik was looking at the cage with it's door open and you could see him thinking, "I remember this."  then he goes in.  Shayna took off like a Tasmanian devil, ran into the cage pinning him in the back, tearing at his face.  Thank goodness she had a strong collar on.

I was afraid to reach in and grab because Boych was defending himself, but she had the upper hand and he had no place to go.  He did not want to fight her, and was only defending himself against her bites.  I pulled her out and she is flinging herself at the cage trying to get back in and finish him.  I kicked the door shut and released her.  She didn't back off she started crashing the sides of the cage from the outside.  I had a warrior princess on my hands and she was determined to put the gallant prince in his grave.

I grabbed her collar and moved her away, kicking the door back open so he would have a chance to get out of the cage.  She is still growling and charging at him, and pulling me.  To her credit she never showed any aggression towards me.  If she had it would have been a deal breaker.  She would have been at the vets in the time it would take me to grab the keys and the purse.

I had to hold on to the collar for almost thirty minutes.  Every time Boych moved she began the terror campaign.  The problem was the "Cage".  She didn't want it, but because she had been in it he wasn't to go in it.  It was hers.  If he walked near it he was attacked.  The cage is still up and we have still tried with no success to use it for her.  There have been numerous times when I wanted to cage her for the rest of her life.

One of the biggest obstacles we had was to get her to recognize the human voice, that it was speaking to her.  We actually thought she was deaf.  The morning before the cage incident we realized she wasn't deaf.  We were outside trying to get the potty training idea implanted in her brain.  Boych had already run off to his potty corner and I was leading her around on the lead (actually following her. She didn't want to lead, but the chain could be on her if I just let her walk.  She was on the lead because we didn't want her running away and didn't want her to lead Boych off.  (He followed her everywhere in the house, we were worried the same thing would happen outside).

He was out of sight and barked (The raccoons were on the back porch).   Her ears went up, it was then I knew she was just deaf to the sound of voices.  She had never been spoken too.

Now to the potty training.  Geesh was that dog clueless.  I can't tell you how big the rivers were.  It is great we don't have carpet.  (She wet on the large carpet squares Boych used for sleeping on.)  Her wetting and pooing was not marking her territory it was just needing to go.  She did not even give signal she was going to go, she just went where she was standing.

We had had success going outside a couple of times, but on the lead she would never poo.  The last straw came, when she wanted to go and I thought I saw the look and went to get the lead.  Bad move, I should have just gone to get her and put her out.  She jumped up on the sofa to get away from Boych sniffing her and peed and peed and peed.  I yelled and yelled and yelled.  It wasn't the disaster you think it was.  The sofa has been covered with drop cloth plastic when people aren't using it.  It also has a cover on top of that.  The reason for the cover is not to keep fur off it, it is because the cats were having fur balls to the extreme and it seemed they preferred to cough them up on the sofa.  Washing fur balls off a cover is easier than washing the stain out of it. not to mention what that gallon of urine would have done.

I took her out saying Potty, and took her to the places where we had had success.  No luck but I was hoping she understood.   We went back in and I cleaned up the mess.  Afterwards, I am sitting here at the computer working on my Guilds BOM/Mystery.  It hadn't been even an hour since the "accident".  I hear toenails on the floor, and the crinkle of the drop cloth on the sofa and turn around to look to see why and what do I see?  The "D" Dog on the sofa peeing.  I didn't think twice I grabbed her by the collar and drug her still peeing to the door and threw her out, yelling, "If you want to run away, do it, I won't stop you.  Go potty outside."

I went to clean up the sofa.  Washing covers for the sofa is no easy task.  It is ten feet long.  Went and got the other cover out of the wash and put this one in the wash.  When I came back upstairs I went to the door and looked out.  She was still there.  That was the first success on two levels.  She didn't run away and what I didn't know was I got through to her pea brain that you don't go in the house.

Then disaster, she developed some kind of intestinal track infection.  She didn't know when she had to poo.  It just started happening.  I thought it was just something she ate.  48 hours later I called the vet and he gave me thirteen dollars of meds for her; some kind of antibiotic I had never heard of and a tube of tape worm medicine and said to get some pepto bismol.  (Did you know you can get a small bottle of off-brand called "pink bismuth" at the dollar tree?)  She is finally better.

During the day time she has been accident free after intestinal was better, but she still couldn't make it through the night.  Last night was the first night we have been totally accident free for 12 hours.  I'm keeping my finger crossed.  Our only problem is she won't tell us when she needs to go, but neither does Boych.  He just holds it till I let him out.

Back to the aggressive moves.  The first aggression happened the first day she was here.  She decided to look at the parrots.  Whoops!  It didn't occur to us Boych would consider them his.  He decided to protect them from her looking at them.  He got between her and the cage and barked.  She decided she wanted where he was, and she charged, This was the first time Warrior Princess was unveiled.  We literally had a royal dog fight on our hands.   Boych was a true prince.  When I hollered and said, "No Boychik", he stopped defending his territory immediately...I had to pull her off and hold her to keep her from attacking him.
 Zephyr and Mariah kissing hello
We have had numerous episodes of Boych protecting his parrots.  She doesn't even go near the cages now.  Due to these confrontations another strange relationship has developed.  The parrot whose name is "Zephyr" has started calling Boych, "come here, come here".  When Boych shows up he says "Woof, woof, puppy dog"  Then he growls at Boych.  When he starts the growling, Boych starts growling and barking very loud at him.  The parrot puts his claw out to grab him and Boych puts his face next to the cage to grab the claw......and the bird, he knows what to do next..............He bites Boych on his flubber lips.  This makes Boych irate and he starts barking and growling at the bird and the bird sticks his beak through the bars to bite him every time.  When things get really ferocious, from up on a perch, in the cage next to Zephyr; you hear "Quiet" whispered.  It is "Mariah"  Zeph's sister who is tired of their noise.  The amazing thing is I have seen them stop the ruckus when she says it.

When Zephyr wants to antagonize Boych he throws out some of his pellets and they clink on the floor. Boych hears it and comes over to eat them.  That bird knows he will be close enough to reach through the bars and grab his soft fleshy ears.  He pinches really hard with his claws then we have a war! Initiated by a bird!

The third day, when we had just about all the testing we could take, there was something happen which made the work worth while, which gave us a reason to try and socialize her.  Boych got her to play wrestle.  For 3 hours they played till they couldn't move and then dropped and slept for 30 minutes and it started all over again.

The only problem with play wrestle is, it is two dogs that are very large. They are playing like puppies do, rolling and crashing over each other.  Biting and fighting but not with the idea to hurt each other.  Doing it for the pure joy of finding a friend he can do dog stuff with.  They charge out the door in  unison, seeing who can run the fastest.

We still are having trouble with the food aggression from her.  If I give them knuckle bones to chew, they have to be locked in separate rooms.  Two reasons for this, her aggression and his idea is I don't want you to have a bone, they are both mine!  When we feed the raccoons on the porch she thinks that it is her food that is going out to them and she attacks Boych when he comes to look.  When I am cooking she doesn't want Boych to come near me.  She thinks I am cooking for her.

Because of Boych's manners and listening to NO as soon as I say it, we can feed them in the same area. (If I leave the area, the first thing she does is try to steal his food even when she still has food in her bowl.)

She is still trying to assert herself as alpha dog, and Boych is letting her think she is till she gets overpowering and he puts his foot down.  They are doing fine together usually.  We are trying to give him tons of love to let him know he is not replaced.  Which is very hard because she is very hyper and any time we have down time and are petting him, even if she is being petted by someone else, she has to leave that person to be petted by the same person Boych is being petted by.

Our main problem with her right now is she can't be trusted.  She knows the rules and when your back is turned she goes, and on purpose, does the thing she knows is no.

Example:  She "counter surfs".   A term coined by one of the readers of this blog.  When she is on her hind legs her nose is almost 7 feet in the air if she stretches.   But those long front legs can reach to all corners of the counters.  There is no more leaving the butter dish out, or even the sugar bowl.  My salt cellar next to the stove is now put away.

The worst part is, she doesn't even have to surf from her hind legs.  She can walk up to the edge of the counter and put her chin on it.  The second day she was here I was making hamburger patties and realized I hadn't gotten out the soy sauce from the fridge.  It is only 10 feet from the stove.  Less than ten seconds my back was turned.  When I turned around I had no hamburger patties.  She had consumed 3/4 of a pound in 5 seconds.  This was a dog which I had been struggling to get to eat her dog food at a faster pace than one piece at a time....She normally chews it 25 times before she swallows it!

When we go out of the kitchen she sneaks back in and does her thing, surfing on the counter.
If she hadn't become such great play friends with Boych she would have been out of here long ago.  In fifty years of dogs, we have never had a dog who had food aggression or one that I couldn't leave stuff alone on the counter.  (She will even get up and reach into the kitchen sink and pull out a dish)

I keep having to remind myself this dog is only just a year old, according to the vet.  (I think she may be younger than that).  Also Boych is now only maybe 14 months old.  They are both still puppies.  They are still growing.  They do puppy things.  .........But they are 80 pounds and she is now more than the 60 lbs she was when she came to us....

When they fight, play or other wise, it is a massive amount of weight when they run into you.  Oh that reminds me, they were playing rough and ran into me.  I got bit.  Not by Boych but by her.  She doesn't know the difference between human and dog flesh.  Boych, the minute his mouth touches you, he stops biting.  Her, she bites down hard when she comes in contact with flesh.

I am wondering how many children have been hurt by dogs who were not intending to hurt them.  Shayna had no idea she was hurting me.  She thought I was part of the game.  I know now we will have to watch her with children.  Boych, who is the one everyone would warn you about would never bite a person even in the throes of play.

We still have a long way to go, but the good sides of Shayna is outweighing her bad points.  We need to find the keys which unlock things in her mind.  Right now the pluses are:  When we leave she isn't aggressive with Boych.  She lays down and goes to sleep, and so does he.  I thinks she is on her way to being totally potty trust worthy.  She is listening when we talk with her.

As Shaggy as this dog story is, you can't believe all I left out.  Thank you for bearing with me.  Our next thing with her is Spaying.  For right now we are going to start training with the lead, and learning simple commands.  (She has learned sit but won't stay...she can't keep still any length of time.)

Meantime our Pit bull has shown what a prince he is and how lucky we are to have him.
I thought Great Pyrenees were calm laid back dogs.
Someone forgot to tell Shayna she is supposed to be the motherly type.

Our diamond is still being polished...LOL

MOMMY'S HOME

Mommy's home and I am happy again.  Daddy told mommy I hadn't been in my pool while she was gone.  It's not very big and I try to lay down in it and I don't fit.  I love to go in circles and swirl the water.  When it is swirling fast I dunk my nose in it and blow bubbles.

My flubber lips flap around in the water.  I try real hard to get my head under the water but it isn't deep enough.  The pool they gave me is a recycled sand box for little kids.  Do you see those knobs on the side of the pool.  I love to chew on them.

See the water swirling as I circle around.  My favorite thing to do is run real fast down the ramp and jump in and drink and drink and drink.  I get water logged inside and then I give a large burp.  Mommy laughs when I burp.  She tells me not to gulp so fast.

This morning I was doing my zooming routine and I sloshed out over half of the water in the pool.

Mommy brought out more buckets of water to fill the pool again.  When she poured them in I had to drink as the water was coming out of the bucket.  It tastes so good and it is very cold from the well.  After I got done romping and running back and forth I saw Mommy waiting for me by the door with a towel in her hands.

It is so nice to be dried.  First she wraps my head in the towel and rubs the dripping water off my flappy jaws.  She keeps telling me how  handsome I am.  Then she tells me to shake hands and she dries each of my feet and legs.  She saves my belly for last and gives a brisk rub down to the belly and back.  I start getting excited at this point because I know when I go in the house I get a Milk bone for a treat.

I take the treat to my Carpet square, after I eat it I will take a big long nap.  Mommy's home, it is so nice to see her and I get to go out during the day and play.  Daddy was a wonderful friend.  He fed me well and gave me lots of love and attention but he was gone all day and when it gets dark I don't like to be outside.

I was real good while Mommy was gone I didn't chew on anything and I didn't have any accidents.  I worked on making friends with the cats.

I am glad she's home.  I don't let her out of my site.  When she is in the kitchen she is hollering at me because she tripped over me.  She always says, "Oops".  Every once in a while there is another word I don't know the meaning of yet.  It sounds like a word I don't want to know its meaning.

Right now I'm headed to dream land.  I want to catch the squirrels there.

ALTERED STATES: "My Guardian Angel" continued

I said I would update you When I got home from the Veterinarian's.  Here it is Monday morning and my state of Alteration occurred on Friday morning.  Needless to say it was a very busy weekend for my Mommy and Daddy.  I don't have opposable thumbs so I couldn't type this for you.

Mommy was there, almost to the minute, to pick me up.  There was some kind of accident on 44 which had the traffic going east, backed up at a stand still for 20 minutes.  Mommy was only 1 mile from the exit.  You can't believe how frustrated she was.  She was worried about me and didn't like sitting in the 94 degree, bright sun, waiting to get to the exit to come and get me.

When she came in the office, I heard her speaking with the receptionist.  I hollered a big woof and a whine.  Mommy said, "Hi Boychik, I hear you."  They talked some more, waiting for someone to come and get me from the cage.  That stainless steel they are made from maybe nice to clean but it sure is cold on my tuchus.

They brought me out to mommy and I could hardly keep still.  I wriggled and they thought I was going to make a hole in the wall.  I was wagging my tail so hard and banging it against the wall.
Mommy was told how to take care of me and they mentioned I would be sleeping a lot and with the pain I could be given an aspirin twice a day.  The general stuff including what activities I could or couldn't do.  I wasn't listening very closely.  Someone had brought a cat in in the carrier and I wanted to see it in the worst way.

Doc's office is located right next to Highway 44.  That's an interstate which is never, not busy.  (It is the old Hwy 66 of the 1950's fame.)  Doc told a young man to help me and mommy out.  I left him standing in my dust.  I couldn't get out of there fast enough.  When I got outside there were 8 cars to chose from.  I ran to the fourth car.  Why not, it was my car.  Mommy was so surprised I knew where to go.  When they opened the door I jumped in.  They had forgotten to tell me it would hurt and I shouldn't do it.  Right then even if they had told me I wouldn't have listened.  I wanted to be home so bad.  My eyes were heavy but I had to sit up and make sure we were going the correct direction.  That was the longest drive.  In actuality is was only 15 minutes.  When mommy got home we didn't even stop to close the gate.  She was worried I would pull a stunt and jump out when she opened the door.   Guess what?  She was right I would have done just that.

When we got to the house and she opened the door,  the first thing I did was head to my favorite potty place.  That was an "aaaahhhhh" moment. You know one of those times when you have to go so bad that when you finish, you let out a big sigh of relief.  They didn't say but they must have given me fluids while I was in that state where they were altering me.   I never pottied so much in my whole life.  Mom was telling me, in a joking voice, I could stop going any time.

When I finished I shook myself and looked at her and ran down the hill.  (She didn't know I heard them tell her I should be kept in and kept quiet.)  I saw a squirrel and just had to see where he was going.  She hollered at me and I pretended I didn't hear her.  I had my nose to the ground and the woods were where I wanted to be.   She stopped calling and went in the house.  I know she was really frightened for me.  I showed back up about 10 minutes later.  Boy was that stuff they gave me kicking me in the head.  I crashed on the carpet in front of the TV.

It wasn't a long nap, maybe thirty minutes and then I had to do the mental telepathy thing and hope mommy would understand.  I had to go real bad.  I gave her "the look".  She turns to dad and said, "Why can't he go to the door and bark.  I think he is asking to go to the bathroom."

When she opened the door she didn't even have to tell me to "Go Potty."  I was knocking her down to get out.  I went and went and went and then went some more.  Boy was that a relief.  Mommy said, "Come on, let's go back in."  I gave her another look and off to the woods I ran.  It was so good to be home I had to check out again my favorite haunts.  I had to make sure no one absconded with them.

I came back about 10 minutes later and mommy was standing in the door with her hands on her hips.  She asked me if I had heard I was supposed to feel bad.  I didn't want to listen, I needed to get back in the house.  My head was starting to swim again from the left over anesthetic.  I didn't get ten feet inside the front door and I crashed in front of the computer desk.

Daddy came home about 20 minutes later.  I'm thinking "Whoopee, Daddy's home, I get to eat.  She feeds me everyday when Daddy gets home."  I ran over to my bowl and sat.  I always sit when she is mixing my food.  She saw me and told Daddy to come and look.  They knew what I wanted but they weren't dishing it up.  You see the doc told them nothing before 7 o'clock.  Don't they realize every one's constitution is different.  I was ready to eat.  They hadn't given me breakfast.  They don't know I remember that.  They took away all my water last night.  I love a nice cold drink of well water.  In fact a little dabble won't do me.  I have to slurp up at least 2 cups at a time.

I tried to stare them down, I even followed them around.  I was so close they were tripping over me.  They still wouldn't feed me.  Then "the straw that broke the camels" back happened.  They put the knife in and turned it.  They betrayed me.  They went to the back door and one of those pesky raccoons was at the back door asking for a snack.  This is a picture of one of the grandmas who comes up to eat.  They are like pets.  They even scratch at the door to tell mommy they are hungry.

Mommy then turns and in her hand are 5 pieces of Dog food.  She says, "I'm so sorry you can't eat yet.  I'll give you a teeny snack."   It was so good but then I needed water. Mommy read my mind.  She put 1 cup in a bowl.  It was so good but there wasn't enough.  I whined at her and told her I wanted more.  She looked at me with sad eyes and said, "Wait a while baby, you'll get sick with more."  I went over to my bed and pouted.  All of a sudden I had the worse feeling.  My stomach was grabbing at my sides.  Geesh the water and the 5 nibbles were on their way up.  Mommy was so sweet, she cooed at me and told me it was okay.  Then she cleaned it up.  OY did I feel bad.  I laid down and went to sleep for an hour.

When I woke up I went outside and the same routine happened.
Boy did I have to go.  I returned to the house and when I came in Mommy had a surprise for me.  She picked up my bowl and started counting.  She stopped at 2 scoops, I always get 5 scoops.  That's not enough.  She put the bowl on the towel (I have to have it on a towel or I push it all over the kitchen, also I am pretty much a slob when I eat.)  That 2 scoops was only enough to whet my appetite.  I kept nudging mom to make me some more.

All of a sudden I had the urge I didn't have time to do the stare I had to go.  I ran around the corner and went in my bed.  Mom seemed to have her vibe feelers out because all of a sudden she was there.  She just picked up the bedding and as she was doing it she didn't yell at me or anything.   She just said she was so sorry for not putting me outside immediately after I ate.  She told dad as much as I had been pottying she should have known the pressure of the food would give me the urge.

The rest of the weekend was a breeze.  Mommy and Daddy went out to a graduation party.  They were worried about me being alone.  They came home earlier than I thought they would.  But it wasn't just me they were worried about.  A huge thunderstorm blew up and rained 2 inches in 30 minutes.  It hit just as they got home.  I was glad they were home.  I needed to go real bad.  She let me out. As soon as I felt 2 drops on my head I ran back in.  It continued raining but at a slower pace.  Daddy took me out to my potty place and I went.  (I was so afraid of the lightening).  When we came in I had so much fun getting rubbed down.  They didn't want me to shake the rain all over but I got in a shake before they could get the towel over me.

Sunday Morning They decided they could trust me to be home alone again.  They headed to the movies and for some shopping.  They were gone for 5 hours.  I did real good. When they came home they called my big brother and told him he was right  The movie was great.  They said it was every bit as good as the first one, maybe even better.  They went to see "How to train your Dragon II".

I was so glad to see them when they got home.  I don't like it when they are gone.

If you are considering "Altering your pet" don't worry about causing him/her undue pain.  The only discomfort I felt was the wooziness from the anesthetic.  If I had any pain I didn't exhibit it.  Mommy gave me an aspirin before she went to bed.  She told Dad, "I don't think he needs it, but when we have any procedure done it always seems to hurt at night even if it didn't hurt  during the day."   I slept like a baby.  I was more active than Mommy wanted me to be but there was no way she could stop me.

The only thing I had that bothered me was the stitches.  I noticed them and thought they were something which didn't belong there.  Twice I was told "NO" to leave them alone.  I did as I was told.  Within 24 hours I didn't even remember  they were there.  If you have a puppy who is obsessive about preening you might have to get them one of those collars so they can't mess with the "Alteration".

I forgot to update you on "Baby".  He's much older than I am.  Probably about three.  If you were worried how he did.  No worries, he jumped up on their bed and was fine.  He ate without even upchucking.  His only problem was the trip.  He hissed and spit at everyone and everything.  It seems when he is not in Mommy and Daddy's bedroom he returns to his feral cat mentality.

You know, I like this house dog stuff.  I like being part of a family.  I love when they laugh because I have done something cute.  This morning my cuteness thing,  I found a tiny mouse the cats had caught and left.  They don't eat them the just play with them.  I rescued it.  I was so gentle with it.  I held it softly in my mouth and took it too my bed.  My feelings were hurt when Mommy picked it up and took it away.  I would love to have a little friend to love and preen.  The cats still won't let me cuddle them, but I do get to sniff 3 of them.

MY GUARDIAN ANGEL

Today I am visiting "My Guardian Angel".

He came to my rescue from the moment I was found.  He ran to protect my new owners in case I was one of those pit bulls people despise and was the malicious kind.

Look at my face, can you see any malice, spite, or  any expression which would tell you I am on the defensive, if you don't watch out I will be "offensive".

Me and my Vet (guardian angel)

Can you see the sincerity?  Can you see how much I adore my new owners.  I've almost forgotten the beatings I endured.  I don't have to scrounge for food anymore.  They feed me twice a day.    I wait patently while they count out five, 1/2 cups of food.  Actually not so patiently, I wiggle my behind and wag my tail.  I don't woof though.  I know she is making it for me.

To show her how grateful I am I don't rush her when she puts the food down.  In fact I don't want to eat till she tells me she loves me and kisses me on the head.  Then I dig in.

If you want to pet me while I am eating I don't mind.  If one of the cats wants a bite I wouldn't  mind either.  They are having a hard time adjusting to me.  Three of them will let me look at them and even let me sniff them.  Sometimes they get out of sorts and spit and hiss at me.  I just sit when they do that and whine in a real shrill voice.  They don't mind that.  If I give a huge woof they cower and act like I am going to eat them.

I don't understand why they won't sit still so I can lick them.  I don't chase them even when they run away. If I get too close they scratch my nose.  It hurts but I never snap at them.  I am bigger than them they only weigh about 12 pounds and today when they weighed me I found out how good I've been eating. I weighed in at 77.4 pounds.  When I saw the vet 3 weeks ago I only weighed 68 lbs.  When I came to their house on April 21, I was on the skinny side about 50 lbs.

This morning, mommy dropped me off  at the "Angel's" Office.  I knew something was up.  She asked me to pose for these pictures.  I didn't want to be any where near him.  He was putting off vibes, I wondered what he had up his sleeve.

I didn't tell you guys, I've known something was up for two days.  Night before last they filled my swimming pool up with water so it could be warmed by the sun.

That night they made me get in it.  I don't mind climbing in on my own but I absolutely put my foot down when you try to make me do something I don't want to do.  I literally, used the cracks in the deck boards to brace my toes in.  I made them work to get me in there.  They had to pick me up to put me in there.  When I got in it was comfortable enough, but if they hadn't had the leash on me I would have bolted.  Instead when she told me to sit, I plopped down awaiting my demise.

She had some Aveano Baby bath soap.  It wasn't bad, it didn't have an odor.  I hate smelly stuff it makes me sneeze.  I have allergies, I am so glad she took that into consideration.

I laid down in the water.  I figured I might as well relax and enjoy the attention and rub down.  Since I can't talk, I couldn't tell them I wasn't all that dirty.  My only problem is I am shedding those soft fine sticky hairs.  They drift everywhere.  The water was cloudy with them when we finished.  My new mommy complains that I stink.  For goodness sake, I am a short hair dog, they are going to have to learn it comes with the territory.

When I got out  of the pool I got a huge laugh.  I shook myself violently,  I almost fell off my feet.  My laugh was because I was watching my owners mimicking me and shaking too.  They were saying, "Shake your booty, shake, shake, shake."  (They were around during the 70's).  They proceeded to dry me down with the softest, fluffiest towels.  They soaked up all the loose water.  Mommy took a small towel and cleaned my face and paid attention to drying out my ears.  I don't need an ear infection from a bath.

Well back to today.  I had that bath because they were going to take me to get altered.  I have no idea what that is.  Why do I need to be altered?  Did I do something wrong?  The accident, the other day does that warrant being altered?  Chewing up dad's good dress shoes and mom's slippers is that why they are altering me?  Do I need my personality changed?  I've tried to show them I am totally loyal and affectionate.  I guess this is one of those days I can chalk up to life experiences.

When I got to the vets, I had these vibes he was up to no good.  I could feel it in my bones.  Needless to say, they put me in a cage and told mommy to leave. (Mommy said she would see me later and gave me a kiss). I cried when I saw her leave, I know she stood at the desk for a while.  I could hear her talking to the lady.

Next thing I remember I was pulled out of the cage by two burly guys who I don't know.  They really scared me.  One of them held my leg tight.  I couldn't move it.  Then they poked me with a needle.  It hurt real bad, but 5 minutes later I didn't know anything. I was fast asleep.

I'm awake now, waiting on mommy to get here.  I can't stand up because my legs don't want to.  When I try, it hurts so bad.
I wonder if this is going to be one of those times I forget about the pain.  I hope so.    I'll post how the rest of the day goes.

I didn't mention I wasn't alone on this alteration trip,  I brought Baby with me.  This is Baby:

Mom and Dad say's he stinks worse than I do.
When we get home I will post how we are.
I wonder what "Altered States" means?
